What is the Australian Community Data Standard and Community Information Exchange Project?
First launched in 2013, This project is a community led project developing essential infrastructure for the Community Services industry sector.
What did the Project produce?
The project has founded the Community Information Exchange, common data platform for the community sector to use for client transactions, referral, public information, industry statistics, marketing, research, evaluation and policy development. The Community Information Exchange brings together multiple community sector directories, through a common data standard and protocol. Economies of scale and automated, regular checks on data ensure its validity and maintain its reliability.
Why do we need it?
As service providers/ referrers and users of services
Currently dozens of special purpose community databases provide varying degrees of reliable information. They get set up with great intent, but as people move on, they are too hard to maintain. It is time-consuming and frustrating for service users and their agents to find the service they want - and even if you do find a service, you have little idea of what it does or of its quality.
As the community services industry
Different terms and data definitions make it impossible to aggregate data so the sector and segments within it, have limited capacity to show what exists, how the sector operates and what is needed to improve performance.
The Australian Community Data Standard and Data Warehouse project provides the foundation for comprehensive community industry information.
Benefits of the project
What does the project include?
The project is to establish the underpinning standards of Community Information information Exchange for the community sector.
The Community Information Exchange has been developed as a data warehouse which provides a single, large, depository of organisation and service data. Organisations include:
